About this procedure
Replacement of lost teeth with titanium implants. It restores its natural appearance and function.
Who is it for?
Suitable
- Adults who have lost one or more teeth and have sufficient bone volume and density in the jaw for an implant
- Candidates whose general health is stable and suitable for the surgical procedure and the healing process
- People ready to maintain consistent oral hygiene and comply with regular dental follow-up
- Individuals whose jaw-facial development is complete (typically 18+) and whose bone growth has finished
- Patients with stable gum health and no active episode of periodontitis
- People seeking a more stable, natural-feeling solution instead of a bridge or removable denture
May not be suitable
- People without sufficient bone volume in the jaw for an implant who have not yet been evaluated for a bone graft
- Patients with uncontrolled diabetes or another uncontrolled chronic illness — this can negatively affect the healing process
- People with active, untreated periodontitis (gum disease) — primary treatment is required first
- Heavy smokers — smoking significantly increases the risk of osseointegration (fusion of the implant with the bone) failure
- Patients taking medications that affect bone metabolism (for example, certain bisphosphonate drugs) — a separate evaluation is required first
- People with severe, uncontrolled bruxism who are not prepared to take protective measures
Suitability is confirmed only at a doctor's examination. Results are individual.
The process step by step
- 1
Initial consultation and imaging(30-45 minutes)
The dentist performs an intraoral examination, and the volume and density of the jawbone are assessed with a panoramic X-ray or 3D tomography (CBCT).
- 2
Treatment planning(1 visit)
The number of implants, their positioning, and the need for a bone graft or sinus lift if required are determined.
- 3
Local anesthesia(10-15 minutes)
Local anesthetic is applied to the surgical area; some clinics also offer an additional sedation option.
- 4
Implant placement(30-90 minutes (depending on the number of implants))
The titanium implant is surgically placed into the jawbone. A bone graft can also be applied in the same session if needed.
- 5
Osseointegration period(2-6 months)
The waiting phase for the implant to fully fuse with the jawbone. A temporary tooth solution may be offered during this time.
- 6
Abutment and final crown placement(1-2 visits)
Once osseointegration is complete, a connecting piece (abutment) and the final custom-made crown are attached on top of the implant.
Recovery process
Swelling, mild pain, and traces of bleeding in the surgical area are normal. This is managed with prescribed pain medication and antiseptic treatment.
Restriction: It is recommended to avoid chewing hard food, hot food and drinks, and touching the surgical area with the tongue.
Swelling and discomfort gradually decrease. If sutures were placed, they are usually removed during this period. A soft-food diet continues.
Restriction: It is recommended to avoid strenuous physical activity and smoking (smoking delays healing).
The osseointegration process continues — the implant gradually fuses with the jawbone. Usually no visible symptoms occur during this period, but the internal healing process takes time.
Restriction: If a temporary tooth solution is in place, the corresponding dietary recommendations should be followed.
Osseointegration is complete, and the abutment and final crown are placed. The tooth is put into full functional use.
Restriction: No special restrictions; regular dental follow-up is recommended.
Risks and transparency
Every surgical procedure carries risks. Transparency is the basis of trust for us.
- Osseointegration failure — the implant not fully fusing with the jawbone, rarely requiring implant removal
- Risk of peri-implantitis (inflammation around the implant), especially with insufficient oral hygiene
- Bleeding or infection at the surgical site (standard surgical risks)
- Rare changes in sensation due to proximity to the sinus cavity in the upper jaw or the nerve canal in the lower jaw
- Need for an additional bone graft in cases of insufficient bone, extending the treatment duration
- Higher failure risk in smokers and in uncontrolled diabetes
- Lifespan of the implant and crown — with proper care it serves for many years, but no lifetime guarantee is given
What does the price depend on?
- Number of implants
- Implant brand and material
- Need for a bone graft or sinus lift
- Material of the final crown (for example, zirconia, metal-ceramic)
- Extent of imaging (CT/X-ray) and surgical complexity
- Clinic experience and treatment duration
Frequently asked questions
How much does a dental implant cost, and what does the price depend on?
The price varies depending on the number of implants, the implant brand, the need for a bone graft, and the material of the final crown. An exact price can only be given after imaging and an in-person consultation — you can book a free consultation for this.
Is a dental implant painful?
Since the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, no pain is felt during the process. In the following 2-3 days there may be mild-to-moderate swelling and discomfort, which is managed with prescribed medication.
How long does an implant last?
With proper oral hygiene and regular dental follow-up, dental implants can last many years, sometimes a lifetime. However, this does not guarantee the same result for every patient — factors such as peri-implantitis can affect the implant's lifespan.
What is the difference between an implant and a bridge?
An implant is placed directly into the jawbone and does not affect neighboring healthy teeth. A bridge, on the other hand, is attached by cutting down the teeth on either side of the missing tooth. An implant is generally considered a more stable solution, but the choice depends on bone condition and patient preference.
How long does the entire treatment take?
Depending on bone condition, the process from implant placement to the final crown fitting usually takes 2-6 months. If a bone graft is needed, this period can be extended further.
Can an implant be placed in the same session as tooth extraction?
In some cases, when bone condition is suitable, an implant can be placed in the same session as the tooth extraction (immediate implantation). However, this is not suitable for every patient and requires individual assessment.
From what age can a dental implant be performed?
It is recommended after the jawbone development is complete, typically after age 18. For older patients, age itself is not a major obstacle to the procedure — general health status is more important.
Does smoking affect the success of an implant?
Yes, smoking reduces blood circulation, slowing the osseointegration process and increasing the risk of implant failure. It is recommended to stop smoking before and after the operation.
Can an implant fail?
In rare cases the implant does not fully fuse with the jawbone (osseointegration failure) and needs to be removed and reassessed. This possibility is minimized with proper planning, healthy bone condition, and hygiene, but it is not entirely zero.
How should I care for the implant after it is placed?
Regular brushing, flossing, and dental follow-up several times a year, just as with natural teeth, are essential. The risk of peri-implantitis is minimized only with proper hygiene.
Is a CT scan/X-ray mandatory?
Yes, a panoramic X-ray or 3D tomography (CBCT) is an essential part of treatment planning in order to accurately assess the volume and density of the jawbone and the position of nerves/sinuses.
