A skincare routine for the climate of Azerbaijan: a 5-step system

The dry air and the sun of Baku place particular demands on the skin. A 5-step plan for morning and evening, recommended by a dermatologist.

Skincare in Azerbaijan should not copy European or Asian routines. The local climate — dry, sunny, windy — creates problems of its own.

The morning routine (5 steps)

1. A gentle cleanser **Why?** To clear the oil gathered overnight without rubbing the skin. The water in Baku is hard, which makes a gentle cleanser important.

Recommendation: Cetaphil Gentle or CeraVe Hydrating

2. Toner **Why?** To restore the pH and tighten the pores.

Recommendation: Hyaluronic acid based (alcohol-free!)

3. Vitamin C serum **Why?** An antioxidant; it protects against sun spots and gives radiance.

Recommendation: 10-15% L-ascorbic acid (for beginners)

4. Moisturiser **Why?** The Baku wind causes moisture loss.

Recommendation: Ceramide based (CeraVe AM)

5. SPF 50+ **Why?** This is **the most important** step. In summer the UV index in Azerbaijan reaches 8+.

The evening routine (5 steps)

1. Double cleanse (an oil-based and a water-based cleanser) 2. Toner 3. The active (on a schedule): - 1 evening: retinol (the mildest one available) - 1 evening: niacinamide - 1 evening: AHA/BHA peel - The remaining evenings: moisturiser only 4. Eye cream 5. Night moisturiser (rich)

Changing with the season

• **Winter (December-March)**: add a facial oil
• **Summer (June-August)**: more niacinamide, less retinol
