Transplanted grafts shed in weeks 2-3 — this is normal and not a reason to panic. Which care speeds recovery up, and which habits damage the hair?

A hair transplant is one of the procedures that raises the most questions for patients — because the result is not visible immediately. The first 14 days have to be supported with the right care, so that the grafts survive and reach full density after 8-12 months.

Day 0 (the day of surgery)

  • Home from the clinic by car (a taxi is not advised — the position of the neck)
  • Do not lie down **without a pillow** — keep an angle of 30-45°
  • Within 6 hours you should drink water and avoid heavy food
  • No shower for the first 24 hours — the head must not get wet
  • A cold compress on the forehead area (NOT on the transplanted zone)

Days 1-3

The first wash: with the special shampoo and the foam technique the surgeon provides.

  • The shampoo is lathered in your hand and applied to the head **gently**
  • No rubbing with the fingers, no friction — only pressing
  • After washing, rinsing and drying completely, the spray the surgeon provided
  • Repeated 2-3 times a day

Days 4-7

  • Crusts form — these are oil + blood + epithelium
  • **Picking** them and **scratching them off with a nail** are strictly forbidden
  • Gentle foam washing continues
  • Swelling may descend from the forehead to the eye sockets (this is normal)
  • On day 7, the surgeon's check-up

Days 8-14

  • The crusts come away by themselves (gradually, during washing)
  • The transplanted hairs look like stubble
  • From day 10 you may wash with an ordinary shampoo
  • Sun protection matters — wear a hat

Weeks 2-4: shock loss

This stage looks frightening, but it is normal. 70-90% of the transplanted grafts shed. The reason: while the blood supply is being rebuilt, the follicle goes through stress.

What happens? - The transplanted hairs shed - The roots stay in place — the hair that sheds will grow again - New growth begins after 2-3 months

What to do: - Stay calm — this is a normal stage - Do not pull at your hair out of stress - Enough food and sleep

Months 1-3

  • The hair begins to grow again
  • Sparse, fine, pale — "baby hair"
  • It will thicken gradually

Months 6-12

  • 60-80% of the density is visible (by 6 months)
  • The final result after 12 months (in some cases 18 months)

Forbidden actions (month 1)

  • Pool, sea, public bath (risk of infection)
  • Hair dyeing (after month 4)
  • Sauna, heavy sweating (a circulation problem)
  • Cigarettes and alcohol (at least 2 weeks)
  • Heavy exercise (at least 4 weeks)
  • Heat from a hairdryer (3 weeks)
